On-Site Interpreting
Courtrooms. Hospitals. Boardrooms.
Qualified in-person interpreters in 170+ languages for New York City courtrooms, depositions, hospital settings, IEP meetings, conferences, and corporate offices. We provide consecutive and simultaneous interpreting — domain specialists only.
When You Need an Interpreter
In the Room.
On-site interpreting delivers what telephone and video can't: a trained professional in the room who can read body language, manage courtroom dynamics, build clinical rapport, and handle the most demanding multilingual environments. MEJPBS places interpreters at locations throughout New York City, typically within 24–48 hours for planned events and 2–4 hours for emergencies.
Every MEJPBS on-site interpreter is vetted, domain-trained, and held to professional ethical standards. Legal proceedings get interpreters with courtroom experience. Medical situations get interpreters with healthcare training. We don't send generalists to specialist settings.
Consecutive vs. Simultaneous Interpreting
Consecutive Interpreting
The speaker pauses. The interpreter delivers the message in the target language. Used for depositions, courtroom testimony, medical appointments, parent conferences, and meetings. Most common for MEJPBS on-site assignments.
Simultaneous Interpreting
The interpreter translates in real time while the speaker continues. Used for conferences, multilingual hearings, and events where constant audio flow is required. Typically requires specialized equipment.

On-Site Interpreting FAQ
Consecutive interpreting is the most common mode for on-site work. The speaker pauses, the interpreter delivers the message, and the exchange continues. This is used in depositions, court testimony, medical appointments, and meetings. Simultaneous interpreting works differently — the interpreter translates while the speaker keeps talking. It takes real skill and is used at conferences or multilingual hearings where the flow can't stop.
For planned assignments, we recommend 24–48 hours advance notice to confirm a specialist interpreter. For emergency situations — urgent court appearances, emergency medical admissions — call 212-426-6017 immediately. For many languages in the NYC metro area, we can place an interpreter within 2–4 hours for emergencies.
