American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters bridge communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing parties. Bilingual staff and family members aren't trained interpreters and shouldn't be used in professional settings. MEJPBS ASL interpreters are certified, domain-trained professionals who understand the linguistic and cultural nuances of Deaf communication.
Under ADA Title III, places of public accommodation must provide effective communication access for Deaf individuals. Using an unqualified interpreter or relying on written notes for complex communications does not satisfy this obligation. MEJPBS certified ASL interpreters ensure legal compliance and communication accuracy.
Sometimes a hearing ASL interpreter alone can't achieve effective communication — for DeafBlind individuals, or Deaf consumers who use regional or non-standard sign forms. In those cases, MEJPBS can coordinate a CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter). A CDI is a Deaf professional who holds the CDI credential from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and communicates directly with the Deaf consumer in their own language form.

We can use your existing video platform or provide a secure link.

Yes. MEJPBS ASL interpreters for medical settings are trained in HIPAA-compliant communication and healthcare interpreting standards. We cover consultations, procedures, discharge planning, mental health sessions, specialist referrals, and telehealth appointments by video. Section 1557 of the ACA requires healthcare providers that get federal funding to provide language access. ASL interpreting meets this requirement for Deaf patients.
